NAACP Legal Defense & Educational Fund Amicus Brief
Amicus is the NAACP Legal Defense & Educational Fund, the nation’s first and foremost civil rights law organization.
The brief demonstrates that the Texas law and its effort to evade the Constitution is inconsistent with both the Fourteenth Amendment and the Civil Rights Act of 1871. Amici argue that inaction by the Supreme Court would threaten to upend all manner of constitutional rights and protections and allow S.B. 8 to continue to disproportionately burden Black people, Latino people, and other low-income people.
This brief was filed in support of Whole Woman’s Health et. al. v. Jackson et. al. the Center’s lawsuit at the U.S. Supreme Court challenging Texas’s abortion ban (S.B. 8).
