Statement on President Biden’s Executive Order Securing Access to Reproductive and Other Healthcare Services
Statement from Nancy Northup, President and CEO at the Center for Reproductive Rights:
“Abortion services are now illegal in eight states, and the number of states enforcing radical bans and denying people life-saving care is growing rapidly. Already, we are in the midst of a public health crisis that will become more dire by the day. We applaud the President’s direction to advance access to abortion services by supporting out of state travel for abortion care and other reproductive health care. We are encouraged that President Biden is continuing to take action to mitigate this crisis by ensuring compliance with non-discrimination requirements and collecting data on the health impacts of diminishing access to abortion care. The administration should continue to do everything in its power to provide access to as many people as possible, including declaring a public health emergency. We look forward to the work of the interagency Task Force on Reproductive Healthcare Access and urge the Task Force to utilize all tools at their disposal across all agencies to protect abortion access as this public health emergency continues to unfold across the country.”
