Joint Declaration: Stop the “Law for the Protection of Life and Family” Bill in Guatemala
Defenders of sexual and reproductive rights in Latin America and the Caribbean reject Bill No. 5272, also known as the “Law for the Protection of Life and Family” that seeks to restrict the right to abortion in Guatemala and discriminate against different types of families.
More than 60 organizations from across the Americas have signed onto the statement rejecting the significant increase in abortion penalties proposed by the bill and asking the Guatemalan State to respect its international commitments and to protect and guarantee the fundamental rights of its citizens.
