Center for Reproductive Rights Statement on U.S. Department of Justice Lawsuit Against Texas on Six-Week Abortion Ban
09.09.2021 – (PRESS RELEASE) — Statement from Nancy Northup, President and CEO of the Center for Reproductive Rights regarding the Department of Justice’s lawsuit against the state of Texas on S.B. 8:
“It’s a gamechanger that the Department of Justice has joined the legal battle to restore constitutionally protected abortion access in Texas and disarm vigilantes looking to collect their bounties. Right now, and every day this law is in effect, patients are being denied access to essential health care, and the hardest hit are people of color, those struggling to make ends meet, undocumented immigrants and others with pre-existing obstacles to access healthcare.”
The Center for Reproductive Rights is representing the lead plaintiff, Whole Woman’s Health, in the case challenging TX S.B. 8, Whole Woman’s Health, et al v. Jackson et al.
