Arkansas Pushing Most Extreme Ban in U.S.
Arkansas politicians took another step in their mission to violate a woman’s right to make decisions about whether and when to have children,
according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution:
The House Public Health, Welfare and Labor Committee approved by an 11-5 vote legislation that would ban most abortions at 12 weeks into a pregnancy. The
panel earlier approved another bill that would ban most abortions at 20 weeks.
Passing a ban at 12 weeks—still in the first trimester—is blatantly unconstitutional and would endanger the lives and health of many pregnant women. It
also undermines a physician’s ability to practice medicine within the bounds of medical ethics and standards.
The Arkansas legislature is clearly one of several that hope to outlaw abortion in spite of the protections established 40 years ago in Roe v. Wade by the U.S. Supreme Court. This reckless bill proves that Arkansas legislators hope to take a leading role in the war against
women.
