In another blow by the Trump administration, proposed cuts to the Environmental Protection Agency would disproportionately affect low-income families, especially black women and their children. Discussing the implications of such a dangerous move in an op-ed for The Hill, Maya Rupert, senior director for policy at the Center for Reproductive Rights, says:
If Trump attempts to balance the budget at the expense of pregnant black women and their children, no matter how many cuts he proposes, the cost will be too high. By defunding the agency’s environmental justice office and stripping funding for lead remediation efforts, the administration is putting countless people at risk—particularly black children, who are three times more likely than their white counterparts to experience lead poisoning.
