Trump administration takes action to limit the ACA
The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) released a proposed rule that would limit protections provided by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA). If finalized in its current form, this rule would shorten the ACA’s open enrollment period, eliminate year-round special enrollment for households earning less than 150 percent of the federal poverty level, exclude Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients from ACA coverage, increase eligibility verification requirements, and prohibit gender-affirming care from being covered as an essential health benefit beginning in plan year 2026.
