Tell Congress to Vote No on Repealing the FACE Act
Anti-abortion lawmakers are trying to dismantle the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act. Learn more about this decades-long law protecting patients and providers from violent protesters and take action to stop its repeal.

Anti-abortion members of Congress are trying to dismantle a longstanding federal law protecting reproductive health care providers and patients from physical violence—just weeks after a fatal bombing at a fertility clinic.
Known as the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act (FACE Act), the law prohibits the use of force against people seeking reproductive health services, such as abortion and fertility care. Repealing the FACE Act would embolden extremists and endanger lives.

What is the FACE Act?
The Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act (FACE Act) is a federal law that establishes federal criminal penalties for “violent, threatening, obstructive and destructive conduct” intended to block someone from getting or providing reproductive health care.
It was passed more than 30 years ago with strong bipartisan support in response to several extreme acts of violence against abortion providers, including the 1993 murder of Dr. David Gunn in Florida.
As the only federal law protecting reproductive health clinics from violence and harassment, the FACE Act has played a critical role in defending both patients and abortion providers.

Why is the FACE Act important now?
Enforcement of the FACE Act is needed now more than ever. Since Roe v. Wade was overturned, attacks have skyrocketed. According to the National Abortion Federation (NAF), which tracks violence and disruption against abortion providers, anti-abortion extremists “continue to perpetrate high levels of violence and harassment against abortion providers, including arsons, obstructions, assaults, constant picketing, death threats, and other activities meant to intimidate and terrorize abortion providers.”
After taking office in January, President Donald Trump pardoned 23 people who were convicted of crimes under the FACE Act, including harassing pregnant patients and physically blocking them from entering clinics, breaking into clinics, and more. Also in January, Representative Chip Roy introduced a bill to repeal the FACE Act.
Without the protection of the FACE Act, abortion providers, staff and patients will face even greater threats to their safety—that could potentially go unpunished.
