Briefs Filed in Texas Abortion Ban Cases Cite Threats to Constitutional Rights, the Rule of Law, and Health and Wellbeing
Citing threats to constitutional rights and the rule of law—as well as harms to health and wellbeing—experts in constitutional law, health care, government, and civil rights filed amicus briefs in support of two cases challenging Texas’s extreme abortion ban.
Denouncing the Texas law as “a strong attack on women’s freedom,” the European Parliament passes an “urgency resolution” and calls on the U.S. to protect abortion access.
Federal district court temporarily blocks ban in DOJ lawsuit, accusing Texas of pursuing "an unprecedented and aggressive scheme to deprive its citizens of a significant and well-established constitutional right."
The lawsuit defending the physician also asks the district court to declare the Texas law, known as S.B. 8, unconstitutional. The ban has ended almost all abortion access in Texas since it took effect on September 1.
