Supreme Court Asked to Block Texas Law Banning Most Abortions
In this New York Times piece, Center President and CEO Nancy Northup comments about the emergency request made today to the U.S. Supreme Court to stop a new Texas abortion ban due to take effect September 1. The Texas law, S.B. 8, would ban abortion care after approximately six weeks of pregnancy. “In less than two days, Texas politicians will have effectively overturned Roe v. Wade,” said Northup.

The Washington Post also covered the filing, quoting the Center’s Marc Hearron, senior counsel, who stated, “If this law is not blocked by September 1, abortion access in Texas will come to an abrupt stop. Texas has shown it will stop at nothing to force this law into effect.”
