Submission to the Special Rapporteur on violence against women regarding conditions in the United States and the state’s obligation to protect women
The U.S. Legal Program, alongside numerous other civil society organizations, submitted a briefing paper to Ms. Rashida Manjoo, Special Rapporteur on violence against women, in advance of her Mission to the United States from January 24 – February 7, 2011. The report provides information about the gender-specific violence, such as domestic violence, women face and their particular vulnerability to gun violence and to violations while serving in the military or while in detention, and it also provides information about the United States’ obligation to protect violence from such offenses. In particular, the Center contributed expertise regarding domestic violence and reproductive coercion.
