Texas Clinic Reopens After Landmark Victory
Texas has been a battleground for anti-abortion legislation for years, but the reopening of the Whole Woman’s Health clinic in Austin offers hope to countless women seeking abortion care across the state.
In the historic Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt case last June, the Center challenged a Texas law requiring abortion providers to obtain hospital admitting privileges and licensed abortion facilities to meet hospital-like building standards. The law would have shut down all but a handful of clinics in the state.
The Supreme Court struck down the law, finding that it imposes medically unnecessary restrictions on clinics and infringes on a woman’s constitutional right to access safe, legal abortion.
