The Center for Reproductive Rights works to ensure that the European Union (EU) addresses shortcomings and deficits with regard to sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) within the EU as well as in countries around the world. We are engaging with the European Parliament and the EU Commission to strengthen law, policy and EU action on SRHR issues including in response to ongoing threats of regression and backlash against gender equality and women’s rights.

We also work with Council of Europe bodies to raise awareness of sexual and reproductive rights concerns and to influence policy action. We have collaborated with the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Council of Europe on the Issue Paper on Women’s Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights in Europe, which analyzes key remaining barriers and challenges as well as States’ human rights obligations and sets out the Commissioner’s recommendations to Council of Europe member States for comprehensive measures to guarantee sexual and reproductive health and rights across Europe.
