The Status of Adolescents’ Reproductive Rights in the Philippines: 2020 Submission to the Committee on the Rights of the Child
The Asia Unit of the Center for Reproductive Rights together with Philippine-based partners submitted supplemental information for the adoption of the list of issues (LOI) for the Republic of the Philippines by the Committee on the Rights of the Child. The two submissions in 2020 provided independent information on the status of adolescents’ reproductive rights since the Committee’s last periodic review of the state party in 2009 concerning the status of the implementation of obligations under the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
The submissions raised the following issues: (1) barriers to adolescents’ access to contraceptive information and services including dedicated emergency contraceptives, (2) restrictive laws on abortion, and (3) criminalization of factually consensual and non-exploitative sexual activity between adolescents.
