Statement on Trump Administration’s Funding Freeze on Title X
04.01.25 (PRESS STATEMENT) – Over the last 24 hours, the Trump Administration’s DOGE team has launched an unprecedented attack on our nation’s public health infrastructure, firing staff across HHS, including those working on reproductive health and HIV prevention. The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has shut off millions of dollars for vital reproductive care through the Title X program, creating chaos for patients and providers across the country. The Administration’s decision endangers the health of women and families across the country by freezing funds for services including birth control, cancer screenings, and testing for sexually transmitted infections.
Title X is the nation’s only dedicated family planning safety net program that has received bipartisan support for decades. The program serves millions of Americans each year, ensuring that low-income and marginalized communities across the country can access vital family planning and preventive care. Now, the Administration has unjustifiably frozen funds for these essential services.
President Trump has proudly taken credit for the overturning of Roe v. Wade, which has created a nationwide healthcare crisis. Today, he is worsening this crisis by cutting off access to family planning and basic care.
“Individuals struggling to make ends meet will now lose access to affordable birth control and cancer screenings because President Trump is pushing an extreme anti-DEI agenda wholly unrelated to sound healthcare policy,” said Nancy Northup, President and CEO of the Center for Reproductive Rights. “The Title X funding freeze takes aim at clinics with decades long track records under Republican and Democratic administrations. Today, we are demanding answers from this administration about why these clinics are being unfairly targeted. Just a few hours ago, we filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to obtain key documents, communications, and records. We will not back down now, and we will continue to fight on behalf of our clients if funding is not restored.”
For more than 30 years, the Center for Reproductive Rights has advocated for every person’s right to have affordable access to reproductive healthcare. The Center for Reproductive Rights will use every means at our disposal to continue fighting back against this war on the health and well-being of everyday Americans.
- Today we filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request for key documents, communications and records related to the Title X funding freeze;
- We are officially documenting Elon Musk’s Repro Red Flags as he continues to attack, undermine, and dismantle basic care and reproductive freedoms; and
- We stand ready to go to court to defend providers if this administration refuses to restore funding.
