El viernes 24 de julio la Corte Suprema de Estados Unidos emitió una sentencia que anula el caso Roe vs. Wade y sienta las bases para que los estados de todo el país prohíban el aborto, se espera que 25 estados tomen medidas para hacerlo. Desde ese momento, seis estados ya han eliminado por completo el acceso al aborto, negando a las personas el acceso a una atención médica esencial que salva vidas. En las próximas horas y días, más estados planean prohibir el acceso al aborto. 

Estas son siete cosas que puedes hacer hoy para ayudar a las personas que buscan atención médica:

1. Dona a la red nacional de fondos de aborto abortionfunds.org 

Los fondos para el aborto apoyan directamente a las personas que buscan este servicio -incluyendo el apoyo financiero y la asistencia en transporte, alojamiento y traducción a otros idiomas- y son una parte fundamental para garantizar el acceso al aborto. 

2. Dona a las clínicas de aborto independientes en Keep Our Clinics.  

Las clínicas comunitarias pequeñas prestan la mayor parte de los servicios de aborto en Estados Unidos y tienen más probabilidades de estar ubicadas en estados que están en contra del derecho al aborto. Cuando las clínicas cierran, comunidades enteras pierden el acceso al aborto y a otros servicios esenciales de salud sexual y reproductiva. 

3. Manifiéstate y protesta.  

Asiste a las manifestaciones y eventos cercanos y haz que se escuche tu voz. Los eventos de apoyo al acceso al aborto continúan en todo Estados Unidos; visita el mapa We Won’t Go Back y encuentra uno cerca de ti. 

4. Comparte por qué crees que el aborto es esencial #AbortionIsEssential 

Habla con tus amigos, familiares, compañeros de trabajo, socios profesionales, líderes sociales y cualquier otra persona que se te ocurra, y cuéntales por qué el derecho al aborto es tan esencial para la vida y el futuro de una persona. Activa tus redes creando tu propio mensaje o compartiendo algunos ejemplos de publicaciones con la etiqueta #AbortionIsEssential. 

5.  Aprende más de las leyes sobre el aborto en tu estado 

Haz clic en la herramienta interactiva del Centro “¿Qué pasaría si Roe cayera?” para conocer las leyes de tu estado y de todos los demás estados, así como cuáles protegen el aborto y cuáles son susceptibles de prohibirlo.  

6. Averigua cuál es la posición de tus legisladores sobre el derecho al aborto.  

¿Sabes cuál es la posición de tus legisladores locales, estatales y federales sobre el derecho al aborto? Llámalos o envíales un correo electrónico para averiguarlo e insísteles en que actúen ahora para proteger el derecho al aborto y el acceso a la ley. 

7. Dile al Congreso que proteja el acceso al aborto aprobando la Ley de Protección de la Salud de la Mujer (WHPA).  

El Congreso puede y debe actuar inmediatamente para proteger el derecho de acceso al aborto en todos los estados. WHPA protegería el acceso al aborto de las prohibiciones y restricciones estatales, a pesar de la sentencia de la Corte Suprema que anula Roe.

La decisión de la Corte Suprema en el caso Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization perjudicará a millones de personas que buscan servicios de aborto, especialmente a aquellas que ya enfrentan obstáculos discriminatorios para acceder a atención médica, como las mujeres, los  personas afroamericanas, indígenas y otras personas racializadas, personas con discapacidad, habitantes de áreas rurales, jóvenes, indocumentadas y quienes tienen peores condiciones económicas. 

Como los jueces Breyer, Sotomayor y Kagan declararon en su voto en contra: “Después de hoy, las mujeres jóvenes llegarán a la edad adulta con menos derechos que los que tenían sus madres y abuelas… La negativa de la mayoría a considerar siquiera las consecuencias que alteran la vida de la anulación de Roe y Casey es una asombrosa condena a esta decisión…” 

Debemos seguir actuando – hoy y todos los días – para trabajar por un futuro en el que todas las personas, en todos los estados, tengan derecho al aborto.
