Shadow Letter: Sexual and Reproductive Rights in Egypt (CEDAW)
In 2009, the Center submitted a shadow letter to the CEDAW Committee on the situation of sexual and reproductive rights in Egypt, in preparation for the Committee’s review of Egypt at its 45th session. The shadow letter highlighted areas of concern, including: high rates of maternal mortality and morbidity, the prevalence of unsafe abortion, lack of access to post-abortion care, limited access to comprehensive family planning services and information, particularly for adolescents, and the State’s inadequate response to high rates of sexual violence and harassment against women.
