Shadow Letter on the Republic of Moldova to the Committee against Torture

On March 21, 2012, the Center for Reproductive Rights and its partner, the Institutul pentru Drepturile Omului din Moldova (the Moldovan Institute for Human Rights), submitted a shadow letter to the Committee against Torture for the adoption of a list of issues prior to reporting for the Republic of Moldova, which is scheduled for review during the 48th session of the Committee. The letter specifically describes a case that reflects the shortcomings in the Republic of Moldova’s compliance with the provisions of the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment in regard to sexual and reproductive health and rights of women and due process.
