Salvadoran Court Hearing in Case of Teodora, Woman Wrongfully Imprisoned Postponed
(PRESS RELEASE) Teodora del Carmen Vásquez was scheduled for a sentence revision hearing today after being wrongfully convicted of having an abortion and sentenced to 30 years in prison in 2007. The San Salvador Second Tribunal of Sentence suspended the hearing until next week after it became apparent the prosecutor was unprepared.
Said Catalina Martinez Coral, Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean:
“After being wrongfully imprisoned for 10 years, Teodora’s human rights were violated again.
“The lack of preparation from the prosecutor is a deplorable and unacceptable stall tactic.
“The Center for Reproductive Rights and many other international and national organizations vow to fight until Teodora achieves her freedom and is reunited with her family”.
Teodora will remain in prison until her hearing next Wednesday December 13, 2017.
