In September, the Center submitted a shadow letter to the Committee on the Rights of the Child on the situation of sexual and reproductive rights of children and adolescents in Nicaragua. Nicaragua is reporting to the Committee during its 55th session. The shadow letter highlights Nicaragua’s failure to comply with its obligations under the Convention on the Rights of the Child to respect, protect and guarantee children’s right to comprehensive reproductive healthcare and to life in the context of the country’s 2006 total ban on abortion. The letter also highlights Nicaragua’s obligations to address sexual violence and HIV/AIDS as they impact children and adolescents.
