In 2009, the Center, in collaboration with the Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights (EIPR) submitted a shadow letter to the CEDAW Committee highlighting Egypt’s failure to promote and protect women’s sexual and reproductive rights.  The Committee addressed a number of the issues raised by the Center in its concluding observations to the Egyptian government.  These issues include

  • Failure to protect women from sexual violence

  • Inadequate family planning services

  • Insufficient public information on maternal mortality and morbidity

  • Deficient adolescent sexual and reproductive health services
