Amici are the National Birth Equity Collaborative and other organizations and individuals that focus on improving maternal health outcomes.

The brief explains how the United States already faces a maternal health crisis, one that disproportionately affects Black women. Ensuring that pregnant people have access to the full range of reproductive choices, including abortion, is essential to maternal health.

Amici caution that Mississippi’s abortion restriction would exacerbate the maternal health crisis and would have a disproportionate impact on Black women.

Covington & Burling LLP is pro bono counsel.

This brief was one of over 50 amicus briefs filed supporting this Supreme Court case, which challenges Mississippi’s 15-week abortion ban. For more information on the case, go to Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization.
