In many African nations, teenage pregnancy is a significant concern, with approximately one in every five adolescent girls in Africa experiencing pregnancy before the age of 19. In response, the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACERWC) launched a study to provide a detailed assessment and Africa-wide analysis of teenage pregnancy, exploring its prevalence, underlying causes, and far-reaching impacts across the continent.

This ACERWC report—developed in partnership and with contributions from the African Child Policy Forum, Plan International, and the Center for Reproductive Rights—gives recommendations to key stakeholders, enabling them to effectively address and mitigate the challenges associated with teenage pregnancy.
