Resources for Journalists: 15 Things to Consider When Covering Abortion, the Supreme Court, and a Potential “Post-Roe World”
The Guttmacher Institute published an article for journalists covering the abortion rights space to provide context and prevent misinformation. Right now, the right to abortion is at risk and media outlets everywhere are covering the topic. On December 1, the Center will argue Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, a case that directly challenges Roe v. Wade and its core holding that pregnant people have a right to terminate their pregnancy before the point of viability. Dobbs is one of the most significant challenges to abortion rights since Roe was decided nearly 50 years ago.
The article provides context to people both covering and consuming abortion news, including about justices and judges of the Supreme Court and federal courts, information on who has abortions, and where abortion will likely be restricted or banned if Roe is overturned.
