Shivana Jorawar
State Legislative Counsel
Shivana
joined the Center in 2017 and manages our defensive state advocacy initiatives.
She identifies and analyzes harmful restrictions, implements strategies to
fight back, and delivers advocacy support to the Center’s clients and state
partners.
Prior to joining the Center, Shivana served as Federal Policy Director at
the National Abortion Federation, the professional association of abortion
providers. She also previously served as Reproductive Justice Program Director
at the National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum, where she drove the
organization’s advocacy and campaign work to end abortion bans targeting Asian
women.
Shivana’s writing and commentary have been featured in the Associated Press,
Colorlines, The American Prospect, The Hill, The Nation, the Asian American Law Journal at
Berkeley Law, and the Harvard Asian American Policy Review.
She holds a BA in Political Science from Fordham University and a JD from
Emory University School of Law. She is licensed to practice law in New York
state.
