Prabhakar Shrestha
Senior Legal Adviser, Asia
Prabhakar Shrestha joined the Center in May 2017 as a Legal Adviser for Asia. Since October 2021, he has been working as the Senior Legal Adviser for Asia. In this role, he is leading the Center’s work in Nepal and providing strategic support to the Center’s work in the region. He works on forging strategic alliances to engage, enhance, and mobilize national and regional stakeholders, networks, partners, allies, and champions to amplify the Center’s vision and mission to build, enforce and defend reproductive rights guarantees. He is primarily responsible for liaising with national level policy makers as well as professionals for advocacy on sexual and reproductive health and rights, in particular on abortion rights, adolescents’ SRHR and issues around assisted reproduction.
Before joining the Center, Prabhakar worked with the Center for Research on Environment Health and Population Activities (CREHPA) a research organization with expertise in reproductive health. Prabhakar was part of the series of qualitative and quantitative research and programs on abortion, family planning, girl trafficking and child marriage. He designed a series of training curricula and has trained a large number of stakeholders on abortion rights at different levels. He has also co-authored several articles on expanding medical abortion services through mid-level health providers in rural areas of Nepal including, “Road map to scaling up: translating operations research study’s results into actions for expanding medical abortion services in rural health facilities in Nepal.”
Prabhakar has a Master’s degree in Public Administration and has a Bachelor’s in Law from Tribhuvan University of Nepal. Prabhakar is fluent in English, Nepali and Hindi.
