Nkasi Akpaka, State Legislative Fellow

Nkasi joined the Center in 2018 and assists with all aspects of the Center’s U.S. state policy.

Before joining the Center, Nkasi worked at Brooklyn Defender Services representing clients from arraignment to sentencing in Kings County Criminal Court. She previously interned at the Success Academy Charter Schools, where she worked with the policy team on education reform. She interned and worked as a student attorney at The Legal Aid Society, where she represented indigent clients accused of criminal conduct.  As a Summer Law Institute Coordinator, she taught young people criminal justice and criminal procedure at Legal Outreach, Inc., where she also administered mock trial competitions before state judges. She also served as a Legislative Aide and Session Assistant at the New York Senate.

Nkasi received her BA in Political Science and Sociology from SUNY University at Albany, and a Juris Doctorate from Pace University School of Law.
