Melanie Gray
Melanie Gray is the chair of the bankruptcy litigation practice at Winston & Strawn. She focuses on complex commercial litigation and is best known for managing complex cases requiring diverse teams of lawyers in different practice areas. She joined the Winston & Strawn in 2013, and prior to that she was a partner at Weil Gotshal (1985- 2013). Ms. Gray has served in leadership roles in a number of legal organizations, including serving on the board of Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast, Girls Inc., Houston Area Women’s Center, Syracuse University, the Menninger Clinic, Houston Bar Foundation, Interdisciplinary Committee on Law and Accounting of the Houston Bar Association and the board of Texas Accountants and Lawyers for the Arts. She is a founding member of the Center for Women in Law at the University of Texas School of Law. She is a life member of the Texas Women Lawyers and holds membership in other invitation-only organizations, including the American Bar Foundation, the Texas Bar Foundation, the College of the State Bar of Texas and Litigation Counsel of America. Ms. Gray received her B.A. from the State University of New York (SUNY) in 1978, followed by her J.D. from Syracuse University in 1981. Since then, she has earned multiple recognitions for professional excellence. Since 2011, Best Lawyers in America has recognized her in the bankruptcy and creditor debtor rights/insolvency and reorganization law categories. She is recognized in the 2018 edition of Best Lawyers Texas in these categories as well. She has been named a Texas Super Lawyer in each year since 2003 and by Benchmark Litigation as one of the list of Top 250 Women in Litigation since 2013. (Houston, Texas)
