HHS Comment – Medicaid and Gender Affirming Care
- Oversight Actions
The Center for Reproductive Rights submitted a comment in opposition to a proposed rule from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) within the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) that would prohibit federal Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) funding for the provision of gender-affirming care to transgender youth. The comment strongly opposed the proposed rule under the Administrative Procedure Act (APA) and highlighted the detrimental impact it would have on the health and well-being of transgender youth across the country, just as attacks on federal funding for abortion care have had detrimental impacts.
