FDA FOIA – Mifepristone Environmental Analysis
- Oversight Actions
In this FOIA request, we sought information about FDA’s environmental analysis about mifepristone in wastewater/drinking water. FDA had initially completed an analysis of this issue in 2000 when it first approved mifepristone. FDA has since rejected Citizens’ Petitions from anti-abortion advocates that aim to use this allegation as a reason to withdraw mifepristone’s drug approval. Currently, Students for Life and Liberty Counsel are trying to politically influence both FDA and EPA by pressuring them to re-review mifepristone’s impact on wastewater and drinking water. In addition to scientific information, we sought information about communication between FDA and these anti-abortion organizations.
