In a letter to Senator Josh Hawley, Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner Martin Makary confirmed his commitment to “conducting a review of mifepristone.” Makary sent his letter in response to an April 2025 inquiry from Senator Hawley regarding the status of FDA’s review of mifepristone. Hawley’s letter came the same day that the Ethics and Public Policy Center, a radical right-wing think tank, released a pseudo-study using flawed methods to question mifepristone safety. More than 100 peer-reviewed studies over the past 25 years have overwhelmingly demonstrated that mifepristone is safe and effective for use in medication abortion.
