New House Leadership Attacks Women’s Health in Move to Repeal Health Law
(PRESS RELEASE) The incoming leadership for the House of Representatives is calling on committees to submit measures that would replace provisions within the healthcare law. A proposed resolution specifically calls for proposals that would prohibit federal funding for abortion. Lawmakers will vote on the measure next week along with the vote to repeal the healthcare law. Nancy Northup, president of the Center for Reproductive Rights said this in response:
“Only four days into the New Year and anti-choice lawmakers are already on the attack against women’s reproductive health. With this resolution, they are looking to pave the way for legislation that will effectively prevent all American women from buying insurance plans that cover abortion services. At a time when politicians should be focusing the country’s energy on delivering jobs and improving the economy, anti-choice lawmakers are fixated on interfering with a woman’s personal, medical decisions. If there was any question about their zealotry, this latest attack should put it to rest.”
