Members of Congress Amicus Brief in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health
Brief filed at the U.S. Supreme Court in support of the Center's challenge to Mississippi's pre-viability abortion ban.
Amici are 236 members of the United States Congress.
Amici, members of Congress, are bound to support and defend the Constitution and share a concern for the continued vitality and advancement of constitutional protections for individual rights. This includes the decision to have an abortion, a fundamental right guaranteed by the Constitution and one that strikes at the heart of ordered liberty and individual autonomy.
Amici urge the Court to adhere to Roe and Casey out of respect for precedent and to reaffirm their commitment to stare decisis and the rule of law.
According to amici, upholding Mississippi’s abortion ban and overturning Roe would impose long term health and economic costs that would only serve to perpetuate existing structural racial and socioeconomic inequities.
Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer LLP is pro bono counsel.
