Kenya: The Worst Possible Treatment

For
many years now, the Center has been documenting the truly deplorable treatment
that new mothers have faced in Kenyan hospitals when trying to get timely,
quality maternal care. Our work reached a new level in December 2012 when we filed
a case to stop the longstanding practice of detaining impoverished mothers who
have no way of paying their bills. 

Detention
is not the only way that Kenyan women are abused in medical facilities. The
video, broadcast on KTN Kenya, exposes the depths of
abusive behavior found in maternity wards. It serves to underscore the
importance of continuing our fight in Kenya to bring far-reaching reform to the
country’s maternal health care.
