International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics Amicus Brief in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health
Brief filed at the U.S. Supreme Court in support of the Center's challenge to Mississippi's pre-viability abortion ban.
Amicus is the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO).
Global experience shows that legally restricting abortion care results in more abortions that are unsafe, not fewer abortions overall. Harms from unsafe abortion fall disproportionately on poor and marginalized people, exacerbating social inequality.
The brief argues that the global trend toward liberalization has contributed to increasingly safe abortions and reduced maternal mortality. If the Court were to overrule Roe and Casey, the United States would be at odds with health and human rights recommendations of major international health organizations.
Cooley LLP is pro bono counsel.
This brief was one of over 50 amicus briefs filed supporting this Supreme Court case, which challenges Mississippi’s 15-week abortion ban. For more information on the case, go to Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization.
