Honduras no se compromete a acatar las recomendaciones hechas por los Estados parte de Las Naciones Unidas para garantiz

(COMUNICADO DE PRENSA) Los gobiernos de Noruega y Alemania recomendaron a Honduras legalizar el
aborto en casos de violación, y 24 países también recomendaron al Estado tomar
medidas para proteger y prevenir actos de violencia contra las mujeres. Pese a
que el Estado hondureño tomó nota de dichas recomendaciones, no se comprometió
a cambiar esta realidad.


El Embajador
de Honduras dio respuesta formal por parte del gobierno a las recomendaciones
de dichos países el día 25 de septiembre, en el marco del Examen Periódico
Universal—examen que todos los Estados de la ONU deben hacer cada cuatro años
para evaluar la situación de derechos humanos en cada país. , Aunque el Embajador anunció planes del
gobierno de implementar una política para prevenir la violencia contra las mujeres,
el Estado de Honduras no se comprometió a implementar las recomendaciones hechas
por los Estados para permitir el aborto en casos de violación, así como para
revocar la prohibición de la distribución, consumo y venta de la anticoncepción
de emergencia— un mecanismo anticonceptivo esencial para que mujeres que han
sido víctimas de violencia sexual puedan prevenir posibles embarazos.

Martínez Coral, Directora Regional Encargada del Centro de Derechos
Reproductivos afirmó:


“Ninguna
mujer que haya sido víctima de violación sexual debe continuar con un embarazo
no deseado, sin embargo, ,eso es lo que
el gobierno de Honduras perpetúa con las prohibiciones absolutas al aborto y a la
anticoncepción de emergencia”.


“Es
tiempo de que el gobierno Hondureño asuma su responsabilidad internacional por
la negación sistemática a los derechos reproductivos de las mujeres”.


“Tanto
los gobiernos, como las Naciones Unidas necesitan continuar presionando a
Honduras en la toma de acciones correctas para asegurar que un día, las mujeres
en el país tengan acceso a los servicios reproductivos de salud que requieren”.


En una publicación elaborada por el Centro de Derechos
Reproductivos, se reportó cómo la penalización absoluta del aborto y la
anticoncepción de emergencia en Honduras pone en grave riesgo la salud y la
vida de las mujeres. Honduras registra una de las tasas de violencia sexual más
altas en la región. En 2012, la Oficina de las Naciones Unidas contra la Droga
y el Delito (UNODC por sus siglas en inglés) reportó 1,697 casos de abuso
sexual, 1,492 casos de violación y 2,263 casos de abuso sexual contra menores
en el país. Pese a las altas cifras, el acceso a servicios de salud
reproductiva continúa siendo un crimen.


De acuerdo
con un reporte publicado por el Centro de Derechos Reproductivos, en los
últimos 20 años, 35 países han reformado sus leyes restrictivas para permitir
el aborto legal y seguro – una tendencia legal que ha permitido un progreso
significativo en lo que refiere al reconocimiento de los derechos de las
mujeres y la protección de sus vidas, lo cual incluye la reducción de las tasas
de mortalidad materna en los casos de abortos inseguros. El reporte fue lanzado
