Join us for a Symposium on Global Abortion Access—Friday, October 11
Register today for this complimentary webinar from the Buffett Institute for Global Affairs and learn about global trends and access.
When and how did abortion—a private and personal issue—become a matter of foreign policy? What can we learn from different regions’ access strategies? Where is abortion access heading globally?
Find out answers to these questions and more at “Abortion Access Today: Global Insights and Comparisons,” a full-day symposium on Friday, October 11 from 8:45 a.m.– 4 p.m. CT/9:45 a.m.– 5 p.m. ET.
Watch the event—hosted by the Buffett Institute for Global Affairs at Northwestern University—on Zoom or attend in person at the university in Evanston, Illinois.
Co-sponsored by the Center for Reproductive Rights; Foundation for Women and Family Planning (FEDERA); International Center for Research on Women (ICRW) Africa; and the National University of Ireland, Maynooth, the symposium will convene leading strategists, researchers, medical practitioners and human rights advocates from Colombia, Ireland, Kenya, Poland and the U.S.
Panels include:
- Global Restrictions in Abortion Access: Katherine Mayall, the Center’s Director of Strategic Initiatives for Legal Strategies, Innovation & Research, will join panelists in discussing the four outliers in the global trends toward liberalization—the U.S., Poland, El Salvador, and Nicaragua—that have restricted or reversed the legality of abortion.
- Global Expansions in Abortion Access: Catalina Martínez Coral, the Center’s Vice President for Latin America & the Caribbean, will join panelists in discussing activists’ strategies for success—with dozens of countries on nearly every continent liberalizing their abortion laws in recent decades—and the challenges to access that remain.
- In Conversation: Global Trajectories of Abortion Access: At this panel, you’ll learn about the political, geopolitical, cultural and legal factors shaping divergent paths in abortion access and what they reveal about the underlying forces at play and future trajectories worldwide.
