City of New York and Santa Clara County Amicus Brief in Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine v. FDA
Brief filed in Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine v. FDA.
This brief was filed on behalf of local governments (City of New York and NYC Health + Hospitals, the County of Santa Clara, and four other local jurisdictions) on the front lines of protecting the public health and includes the operators of some of the largest municipal public hospital and health-care systems in the nation, who for many years have relied on a safe, effective, and resource efficient drug regimen using mifepristone for medication abortions up to roughly 10 weeks of pregnancy.
The brief emphasizes that it is a uniquely difficult time to operate a public healthcare system, that staying the FDA’s approval of mifepristone will undermine public health, and that by prohibiting the often-prescribed course of treatment and adding to strains on public hospitals, the order will also threaten to undermine confidence in public healthcare systems.
This brief was one of many filed in Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine v. FDA. For more information on the case, click here.
