06.11.24 (DECLARACIÓN) — Hoy, Donald Trump fue declarado ganador de las elecciones presidenciales de 2024 en Estados Unidos. 

Declaración de Nancy Northup, Presidenta y CEO del Centro de Derechos Reproductivos: 

“La elección de Donald J. Trump como el 47º presidente de los Estados Unidos es una amenaza mortal para los valores democráticos de libertad e igualdad, el estado de derecho, así como para la salud reproductiva, los derechos y la justicia en Estados Unidos y en todo el mundo. Extremistas anti derechos pronto estarán nuevamente a cargo de la Casa Blanca y el Senado de EE.UU., ejerciendo el poder en detrimento de poblaciones vulnerables y buscando socavar décadas de progreso en igualdad de género, cuyo pilar es la capacidad de las personas para tomar decisiones relacionadas con su reproducción y tener acceso a atención en salud reproductiva. 

El daño innecesario y cruel causado por la primera administración de Trump incluye una crisis de salud reproductiva en amplias zonas de Estados Unidos, que ha resultado en la muerte de numerosas mujeres que probablemente representan solo la punta del iceberg. El presidente electo Trump se ha jactado de haber nombrado a tres jueces de la Suprema Corte que finalmente revocaron Roe v. Wade. Tras ese fallo, el acceso al aborto está casi o completamente prohibido en 17 estados. En amplias zonas del Sur y el Medio Oeste, las pacientes se ven obligadas a cruzar múltiples fronteras estatales para recibir atención, aunque muchas carecen de los medios para hacerlo. Los obstetras están abandonando los estados donde el aborto está prohibido porque no pueden atender adecuadamente a sus pacientes, incluidas aquellas con complicaciones graves de embarazo. Los obstetras y los residentes de medicina no quieren trabajar en estos estados, creando desiertos en salud materna. 

Una segunda administración de Trump agravará estos daños con impactos nuevos y potencialmente mucho peores. Intentará detener la disponibilidad de medicamentos para el aborto suministrados por correo, que han sido un salvavidas en la era post-Roe. Intentará silenciar a todas las organizaciones, incluidas las que tienen sede en EE.UU., para que no aboguen por reformas a las leyes de aborto, ni proporcionen atención de aborto en el extranjero, incluso con fondos no estadounidenses. Impulsará políticas diseñadas para debilitar a las organizaciones de derechos reproductivos y humanos, mientras apoya a sus contrapartes anti derechos. Tales ataques a nivel federal repercutirán en los estados, llevando sin duda a más procesos, investigaciones y demandas contra proveedores, pacientes y sus seres queridos. 

El Centro de Derechos Reproductivos está listo para esta próxima batalla. Nos opondremos enérgicamente a todos y cada uno de los intentos por revertir el progreso. Escrutaremos cada acción de la Casa Blanca y las agencias federales, recopilaremos los registros fácticos y legales para contrarrestar las acciones de las agencias y trabajaremos para detener la implementación de políticas dañinas antes de que entren en vigor. Si lo hacen, las llevaremos a los tribunales. Lucharemos vehementemente contra cualquier esfuerzo por aprobar una prohibición nacional del aborto, detener la provisión de medicamentos para el aborto por correo, bloquear a las mujeres que cruzan las fronteras estatales para recibir atención, desmantelar las protecciones de la ONU para los derechos reproductivos y el progreso alcanzado en países de todo el mundo, y más. 

En los distintos estados de Estados Unidos, contrarrestaremos las acciones de funcionarios anti derechos, representaremos a personas afectadas por las prohibiciones de aborto e implementaremos las protecciones al derecho al aborto agregadas a las constituciones estatales. No permaneceremos a la defensiva. En los muchos estados que son ‘campeones de los derechos reproductivos’, abogaremos por la libertad reproductiva y el acceso equitativo a la gama completa de atención de salud reproductiva para todos.  

A pesar de que el hombre responsable de que se revocara Roe v. Wade vuelve a la Casa Blanca, las elecciones confirmaron nuevamente que los y las estadounidenses apoyan los derechos reproductivos, con los votantes aprobando iniciativas que agregaron protecciones al derecho al aborto en las constituciones de siete estados. 

Trabajaremos codo a codo con nuestra amplia, diversa y sólida coalición de organizaciones e individuos, que incluye una red de más de 2.000 abogados pro-bono en todo el mundo, para contrarrestar enérgicamente la amenaza muy real de la administración entrante de Trump y enfrentarlos cada vez que sea necesario”.
