Concluding Observations from the CEDAW Committee on Kenya
In December, the Center submitted a shadow letter to the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW Committee) highlighting the situation of women and adolescents’ sexual and reproductive rights in Kenya. The Committee issued concluding observations to Kenya that directly addressed many of the issues that the Center raised in the shadow letter. These issues include high rates of maternal mortality, illegal and unsafe abortion, violence against women, sexual abuse of girls in schools, and the continuing practice of female genital mutilation.
