Center Submits Comment Supporting the Repeal of Harmful Trump-Era Religious Exemption Authorizing Employment Discrimination By Federal Contractors
On December 9, 2021, the Center for Reproductive Rights submitted a comment supporting the Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs’ proposed rule rescinding the Trump administration’s 2020 Rule “Implementing Legal Requirements Regarding the Equal Opportunity Clause’s Religious Exemption” in order to comply with the nondiscrimination requirements for federal contractors in Executive Order 11246, Title VII case law, and the Administrative Procedure Act. The Center’s comment provided insight into the ways in which the Trump-era religious exemption would have sanctioned discrimination by federal contractors against LGBTQ+ employees and employees making reproductive decisions.
