Civil Rights Organizations Amicus Brief in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health
Brief filed at the U.S. Supreme Court in support of the Center's challenge to Mississippi's pre-viability abortion ban.
Amici are the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, and other civil rights organizations.
Amici address the significant reliance interests at stake in this case, particularly for Black women, and argue that low-income individuals and Black women would be disproportionately impacted and shoulder the burden of Mississippi’s abortion ban.
The organizations argue that stare decisis precludes the Court from overruling Roe and Casey. Upending the existing viability framework would result in a two-tiered system of abortion access with an unworkable patchwork of laws across the country.
This brief was one of over 50 amicus briefs filed supporting this Supreme Court case, which challenges Mississippi’s 15-week abortion ban. For more information on the case, go to Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization.
