Center for Reproductive Rights Statement on Third Sexual Assault Report Against Judge Brett Kavanaugh
Statement of
Nancy Northup, President and CEO of the Center for Reproductive Rights:
“The extraordinary events of the last week demand thorough,
fair, and complete investigations of the serious sexual assault reports before
any Judiciary Committee or Senate vote on Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s lifetime
appointment to the U.S. Supreme Court. The Senate Judiciary Committee has
refused to take these reports seriously. Three women – Dr. Christine Blasey
Ford, Deborah Ramirez, and Julie Swetnick – have come forward, yet to date the
Senate Judiciary Committee has only provided Dr. Blasey Ford with the
opportunity to testify under restrictive terms and conditions, has declined to
call key witnesses, has declined to call for an FBI investigation, and instead
is rushing towards a Committee vote on Judge Kavanaugh’s nomination for Friday
morning. This is a sham and a disgrace. The Senate Judiciary Committee needs to
halt this confirmation process until thorough and fair investigations of these
reports are completed.”
