Center For Reproductive Rights President & CEO Nancy Northup: Statement on Decision to Rescind DACA
Statement of Nancy Northup, President and CEO, Center for Reproductive Rights:
“Attorney General Sessions’ announcement today that the Justice Department is rescinding the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program is chilling in its doublespeak and potential to devastate the lives of 800,000 young immigrants. The Attorney General repeatedly appealed to “the rule of law” as a justification for upending the legal process set up five years ago to allow undocumented immigrants raised in the U.S. to remain with their families and continue their established lives. These Dreamers relied on this process when they voluntarily gave the U.S. government their addresses, fingerprints and more in seeking legal protection. That the personal information which they voluntarily shared may now be turned against them is a betrayal. To justify it as upholding the rule of law is perverse.
“We call on Congress to correct this action, respect the rule of law, and support the DREAMers.”
