Center for Reproductive Rights Joins Historic Women’s March

(PRESS RELEASE) The Center for Reproductive Rights will join over 150 organizations on January 21, 2017 at the historic Women’s March in Washington, D.C. 

The Women’s March is a national protest being held one day after the inauguration of president-elect Donald Trump and aims to bring thousands of women and men together to send a bold message to the incoming administration that women’s rights are human rights.  The march will bring together leaders, activists, and hundreds of thousands of people from around the country motivated to take to the streets to show support for a broad range of issues, including women’s access to safe and legal abortion.  Additionally, over 150 affiliated marches are expected to take place around the world around the same time.

“Women have demonstrated over and over that when our fundamental rights are under attack, we will show up and speak up,” said Nancy Northup, president and CEO of the Center for Reproductive Rights.

“Our rights are not up for debate. We will refuse to go backwards on access to reproductive health care for all women. The Women’s March happening in D.C. and across the U.S. marks the beginning of an unprecedented wave of action and civic participation that will not relent until our rights re respected.  The Center for Reproductive Rights is proud be a sponsor of this historic Women’s March.” 

The Women’s March comes on the heels of other recent public demonstrations to express support for women’s rights.  Less than a year ago, more than 70 organizations brought together thousands of reproductive rights supporters during the historic oral arguments in Whole Woman’s Health v Hellerstedt— one of the largest rallies in Supreme Court history.   And just this fall, women and men in Poland shut down entire cities with demonstrations that thwarted an extreme abortion ban.
