Center Applauds Senate Confirmation of Michael Posner as Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor
(PRESS STATEMENT) Today, the United States Senate confirmed Michael Posner as the nation’s Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor. Nancy Northup, president of the Center for Reproductive Rights, issued the following statement in response:
“It is with great pleasure that we congratulate Michael Posner, a fellow advocate for human rights, on his election to the State Department. A leader of the human rights movement for over 30 years, Michael is uniquely positioned to head the Department’s Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor. His deep commitment to human rights and breadth of experience will greatly benefit the Obama Administration as it works to reinstate United States leadership on human rights issues.
