Top red flags

Top red flags

  • Long-time anti-rights advocate who, prior to public service, spent more than a decade moving up the ranks of a prominent anti-abortion organization
  • Championed the Hyde Amendment before Congress, testifying in support of the federal abortion ban that bars abortion coverage for people using federal health programs.
  • Authored dozens of articles and blog posts spreading misinformation about and advocating against reproductive health and rights.
Statements and Policy Actions

Statements

  • Plaster appeared multiple times on an anti-abortion news channel, including to praise the first Trump administration’s anti-abortion actions and to promote fake health clinics (also known as “crisis pregnancy centers”).
  • Plaster testified during a House Judiciary Committee hearing to advocate for permanent codification of the Hyde Amendment
  • Plaster was featured in a social media video criticizing Roe v. Wade that was released by the anti-abortion Life Issues Institute.
  • Plaster testified before the Pennsylvania House Health Committee during a public anti-abortion hearing. During her testimony, Plaster spread misinformation about the safety of medication abortion and called for more state abortion surveillance.
  • Plaster spoke at a Congressional Policy Briefing hosted by the anti-abortion organization March for Life. During her remarks, she praised the Hyde Amendment and said that abortion is “neither healthy nor caring for women.”
Publications

Publications

  • Plaster has written extensively on her anti-abortion stance during her long career at the Charlotte Lozier Institute, an anti-abortion organization affiliated with Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, including blog posts that:
    • Spread misinformation about fetal pain and called for a national abortion ban.
    • Promoted legislation that would codify the Weldon Amendment, an anti-abortion federal appropriations policy that emboldens providers to deny abortion and other reproductive health services, even in medical emergencies.
    • Spread misinformation about medication abortion and so-called “abortion pill reversal.”
    • Argued in favor of state legislation requiring onerous and medically unnecessary hospital admitting privilege requirements for abortion providers.
    • Argued against state coverage mandates for comprehensive reproductive health care, including abortions.
    • Made false and misleading claims (in multiple posts) about abortion coverage under the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
  • Plaster co-authored a news commentary praising anti-abortion state legislation.
  • Plaster co-authored an article that examined national abortion rates and used those trends to make dubious and misleading claims about abortion pills and providers.
    • Notably, the journal that published the article is considered potentially “predatory” because of its lack of scientific rigor.
  • Plaster wrote an article supporting the defunding of reproductive health organizations that provide abortion or support access to comprehensive reproductive health care with non-federal funding.
    • In July 2025 President Trump signed the “One Big Beautiful Bill” Act, enacting a defunding provision just like what Plaster advocated for in her article. Defunding has had devastating consequences for essential community providers, forcing more than 20 planned parenthood health centers to close and Maine Family Planning to stop providing primary care.
  • Plaster authored an op-ed accusing the scientific community of censoring anti-abortion studies and politicizing scientific research.
