  • As a commissioner on the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), Lucas helps implement and enforce Federal employment discrimination laws, including those on sex discrimination, which involves pregnancy, childbirth, transgender status, and sexual orientation. Lucas plays a key role in the Commission’s Federal rulemaking process, including developing and drafting regulations and reviewing public comments. Her role also includes investigating companies and institutions, training employers and employees, and providing guidance and support to Federal agencies. She has already announced that in her role as Acting Chair of the Commission, she intends to reconsider the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (PWFA) rule, which provides workplace accommodations for abortion.

    • She has since announced her intention to reconsider the rule now that she has the position of Acting Chair on the Commission.
  • As a commissioner on the EEOC, Lucas launched multiple discrimination probes into companies providing abortion travel benefits after the Dobbs decision. She claimed that these companies were “discriminating” against individuals who chose not to end pregnancies. 
  • Lucas made disparaging remarks about choosing to freeze your eggs and to not have children while minimizing the importance of combatting gender segregation in the workplace.
