Abortion Pill: Keeping Women Safe in Iowa
Across the country, anti-choice legislators have tried to choke off access to medication abortion, especially its use through telemedicine. They have falsely claimed that their intent is to keep women safe. Well, a new study of medication abortion use in Iowa shows that more women were able to access abortion in the first trimester when there are fewer complications, according to the Des Moines Register:
“The results of this study confirm that providing access to medication abortion using telemedicine does not increase the number of abortions, but allows a woman to end a pregnancy when and where it is best for her,” said Penny Dickey, a Planned Parenthood of the Heartland public affairs officer.
We hope to see more studies added to already existing evidence that medication abortion is safe for women and provides them with the dignity that all people deserve in making health decisions.
