2016 State of the States: A Pivotal Time for Reproductive Rights
Politicians
in statehouses across the country continued to attack women’s access to
vital health care services in 2016, introducing more than 500 bills and
enacting more than 60 new laws restricting access to reproductive
health care this legislative session. 2016 State of the States: A Pivotal Time for Reproductive Rights
provides a state-by-state summary of restrictions passed in 2016, as
well as an overview of major developments in the courts regarding
unconstitutional intrusions on the right to safe and legal abortion. The
report also provides some bright spots in the midst of this year’s
onslaught of restrictions, noting that nearly 300 measures were
introduced in state legislatures across the country intended to protect
or advance reproductive health and rights.
